About the Farm
Mulinga Coffee Estate is a family-owned farm located in Kenya’s North Rift Valley, nestled in the Cherangani Hills near Mount Elgon. The Etemesi family has been growing coffee here since 1971, and today the estate is managed by the third generation, combining decades of experience with a modern approach to quality and traceability.
One of the estate’s unique features is its coffee trees planted in the 1940s, many of which are still producing cherries today. Together with younger plantings, they contribute to the distinctive character of each harvest. The coffee is grown on volcanic soils without artificial irrigation, allowing the cherries to mature naturally.
Each coffee variety is carefully managed with detailed records of pruning, nutrition, pest control, and yield. Harvest takes place from October to December, with only fully ripe cherries picked by hand.
After harvesting, the coffee is fully washed on the estate and then slowly sun-dried on raised drying beds. This careful drying process ensures even moisture reduction and consistent cup quality. Every lot is kept separate from harvest through export, providing complete traceability and preserving the unique identity of each coffee.
