Ethiopia Yirgacheffe – Boledu Coffee ‎

This lot comes from farms in the Yirgacheffe district, at the heart of the Gedeo zone in southwestern Ethiopia — a region renowned for producing some of the world’s most distinctive coffees. The unique combination of a warm tropical climate, fertile loamy soils with excellent drainage, and elevations above 2000 m.a.s.l. creates ideal conditions for specialty coffee cultivation. At this altitude, the cherries mature slowly, allowing the trees to enrich the beans with more nutrients and develop complex, vibrant flavor profiles. Coffees from this region are classified as Strictly High Grown (SHG) / Strictly Hard Bean (SHB). ‎

Most producers in Gedeo are smallholder farmers working plots of 0.5–2 hectares. The region counts over 25,000 such farms. The climate is marked by bimodal rainfall: a short rainy season from March to May followed by a brief dry spell, and the main rainy season from July to December. Annual rainfall averages 1800–2000 mm, with mean monthly temperatures between 20–23 °C. ‎

Boledu Coffee is a certified exporter and owner of processing stations in Yirgacheffe (Konga, Gedeb, Aricha) and Guji. Founded in 2018 by Abiote Ageze and Mebrahtu Aynalem, the company integrates the entire supply chain — from cherry collection to export — ensuring full transparency and traceability. Boledu invests heavily in farmer training and sustainable development. ‎

Today, the company works with hundreds of smallholder producers across Ethiopia’s most famous coffee regions, providing access to modern washing and drying stations, logistics, and export services. For example, at the Halo Beriti Washing Station, more than 1,250 smallholders deliver cherries grown at 1900–2200 m.a.s.l. ‎
