This coffee is grown in Trans Nzoia County on the slopes of Mount Elgon in Western Kenya. The region has long been known for livestock farming, cattle rearing, and maize production. However, recently, more locals—especially the younger generation—have begun focusing on coffee cultivation.
The terroir features fertile volcanic soils and a mild climate with average temperatures up to 28°C and ample rainfall throughout the year. Coffee from this area is characterized by medium acidity, medium body, and bright floral notes.
Harvests take place twice a year: from March to July and from October to early January.
About WanRich Farm
WanRich Coffee is a family-owned business founded in 2015. Initially, the coffee trees on Jane Kamau’s family farm were underperforming. However, at a local agricultural expo, Jane connected with representatives from the Coffee Research Institute and secured their support to further develop the farm.
She began following the institute’s guidance on selecting the most effective varieties, adhering to a care calendar for the trees, and learning more about the coffee market. Later, Jane also completed an export training course.
Over six years, the farm’s yield has increased by 50 times!
Jane currently serves on the board of NORT, a women’s group working to establish a central processing station for farmers in the region.
