The coffee for this blend is harvested from farms in the municipality of Matazano in the La Paz department, located in southwestern Honduras, near the Montecillos Reserve. The local Lenka people call this region "the place of stone" due to its mountainous landscape and dense jungle. La Paz has clay-loam soils and a temperate climate.
The coffee trees here receive less sunlight, so they produce smaller quantities of fruit, but of higher quality. They usually grow in the shade of banana palms.
Montecillos was the first region in Honduras to receive the status of appellation of origin - Café de Marcala.
Of the thousands of coffee varieties grown in Honduras, Montecillo coffee
was ranked in the top 3% of the best in the country according to the 2016 Cup of Excellence competition.
