Huehuetenango is well known for its high altitude and consistent weather. The region lies at the intersection of hot air blowing east from the Tehuantepec plains in Oaxaca, Mexico, and cool air descending from the Cuchumantanes Mountains. The meeting of these hot and cold air creates a microclimate that keeps frost at bay and allows coffee to be grown at high altitudes. Coffee production at 2,000 meters above sea level is common here. These conditions are ideal for producing the sparkling acidity and distinct fruity aromas characteristic of this region. ‎
