This coffee lot comes from the Busasa processing station, located in the Buhinjuza commune (Muyingi province) in northeastern Burundi. It is a mountainous region with an average altitude of 1,500-1,800 meters above sea level and volcanic soils. The area is crossed by the Nile River and borders the Ruvubu National Park. The Businde station is owned and operated by Matsitsi Trading Coffee SU (MATRACO), a company founded in 2015 by Zuberi Matsitsi. Its main objective is the production and promotion of specialty coffee. Zuberi Matsitsi has over 7,000 coffee trees and 3 processing stations in the Kayanza and Muyingi regions.
Coffee lots from MATRACO were among the winners of the "Cup of Excellence" competition in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017. The Busasa Coffee Processing Station (Busasa CWS) was built in 2014. It employs 6 full-time staff and 150 seasonal workers. The station is equipped with 151 African dryers and works with 1,600 farmers who supply coffee berries from the surrounding hills. The station produces 650 metric tons of coffee berries annually.
