This coffee comes from La Bolsa Farm, located in the municipality of La Libertad in the Huehuetenango region at the foot of the Cuchumatanes Range, the highest non-volcanic mountain range in Central America. A mix of warm and cool air currents protects the area from frost, creating favorable conditions for coffee growing at altitudes of over 2,000 meters above sea level. The region is characterized by limestone soil, with a relatively high pH level, which affects the acidity of the cup. Huehuetenango coffee is considered to be one of the highest quality in Guatemala. La Bolsa Farm is located between two mountains that provide a very stable, humid microclimate, which, combined with the limestone-rich soil, gives the coffee a very unique profile, with a rich syrupy body and high levels of malic and citric acid. The farm cultivates the Caturra and Bourbon coffee varieties, which grow in the shade of chaluma, pines and other trees. ‎

La Bolsa was founded in 1958 by Jorge Vides, a professor of medicine. He has received several awards for his coffee production (including second place in the 2002 Cup of Excellence) and for his influence on the development of the Huehuetenango region. Even the main hospital in the community bears his name. In 1980, Jorge founded a school that still operates on the farm. Since 1996, the farm has been managed by María Elena Vides. In 2012, Finca la Bolsa, together with the Association Coffee Care, created a project to reduce child labor and improve the quality of life of farm workers and their families through daycare centers and vocational workshops for children aged 2 to 14. La Bolsa is Rainforest Alliance certified and adheres to C.A.F.E. standards. ‎
