Jhonatan Gasca, a young traditional coffee farmer, was born in the department with the largest coffee production in Colombia, Pitalito, located in the department of Huila in the south of Colombia. "I was born on a coffee plantation" - says Jonathan... "My grandparents and parents have always been devoted to coffee farming, and although I have to thank them for this passion, the truth is that they grew, harvested and sold coffee those who paid the most. ‎

They aimed for quantity, not quality. It was a way to have a steady income.” As a child, Jonathan wanted to become a soccer player and together with his brother Johan, they went to Cali to train with the professional team “Deportivo Cali”. Things weren't going very well there and eventually they started to feel lonely, their mother was sending them money for their living, which was very depressing for them as things weren't going the way they wanted...so they decided to go back home. His mother insisted that he study, so she chose radiology for him in Bogotá. ‎

Jonathan did not like this idea at all, but he took advantage of the opportunity to learn. That's how he decided to apply for a technologist in ecological agriculture and animal husbandry, knowing that with such an education he would have more opportunities on the farm. Until 2008, the topic of specialty coffee was something new. Jonathan, together with his uncle and brother, began to conduct the first tests on planting specialty coffee on the plot given to them by their father. ‎

The first coffee he was able to bring out was Honey. Jonathan enthusiastically took her to the SKM cooperative, where he was paid the best, but, unfortunately, they refused her, because of her appearance, "this coffee cannot be sold", Jonathan was told. He was very depressed because his family also did not share his views on the quality of coffee. ‎

Having decided to go into specialty coffee, he continues to experiment and learn, he is interested in really knowing what he is selling. In addition, the Lasso family has been a great motivation for Jonathan. As his friends are also well known for their excellent specialty coffees, they have been an example for Jonathan and he looks forward to being able to reach their level of coffee. ‎

Jonathan and Johan (his brother and partner) dream of world recognition, not only because of money, but also because they are proud to continue the family tradition and promote the good name of the product that gave them everything in life - coffee.
