Farmers from Copacabana have farms that are between 1,600 and 1,970 meters above sea level. These heights make the land particularly suitable for growing coffee. Most of the farms in this area grow coffee and/or tea, which also grow best at high altitudes.
Farmers in Rwanda have small plots of coffee plantations, usually
about 250 trees. Most coffee trees are intercropped with food crops such as corn and potatoes. Despite their small size, for many coffee remains the main commodity crop and the biggest source of income during the year. In the early 2000s, the Rwandan government, with the support of international partners, identified coffee as a potentially key generator of much-needed export revenue. To improve the quality of coffee, the government has encouraged the establishment of new washing stations in coffee growing areas and is working with local stakeholders to ensure that farmers are the main beneficiaries.![](https://admin.funt.coffee/assets/52cabeff-5c52 -43cb-9751-9a2213ee9682)
