This lot comes from the Rio Azul cooperative in the municipality of Huehuetenango, Guatemala. The region is located at the foot of the Kuchumatan Range, the highest non-volcanic mountain range in Central America. The mixture of thermal hot masses with cool ones protects the territory from frosts, creating favorable conditions for the growth of coffee up to 2000 m above sea level. The region boasts limestone soil known for its relatively high pH, which affects the acidity of the cup. Coffee from Huehuetenango is considered one of the best in Guatemala.

Rio Azul unites 400 family farms. They are mainly devoted to the cultivation of coffee, but also contain intermediate crops of corn and grain farmers for
personal consumption. Due to limited resources for coffee processing, the farmers formed a partnership with Unitrade Coffee, an export company that operates a wet mill in Huehuetenango. In addition to facilitating access to international markets, Unitrade also created CoffeeCare, an organization that focuses on education, nutrition and health for farmers and their children.
