Kegwa Station is part of the Ngiriambu Cooperative Society established in 1997 as a Coffee and Marketing Society. Today, Ngiriambu has 4,500 registered members to whom it continuously provides support and services, including coffee processing at 2 stations, Kiri and Kegwa. The latter was established in 1979 and currently serves 1,900 smallholder farmers in the Njukiini area of Kirinyaga County on the slopes of Mount Kenya. The station borders the Njukiini Forest, so the microclimate is very cool throughout the year. ‎

This area is characterized by bimodal precipitation and temperatures from 10 to 26 degrees. Long rains fall in March-May, just in the flowering period before the main harvest. ‎
Kirinyaga District is located on the southern slope of the highest mountain in the country - Mt.Kenya (5199 m). Due to the altitude (the farms are located at an altitude of 1500 - 1560 m above sea level), fertile volcanic soils and a tropical climate, coffee from Kirinyaga is considered one of the best in Kenya and is characterized by a smooth body and bright acidity. Together with the local authorities and other partners Ngiriambu conducts training on good agricultural practices, environmental conservation measures and maintenance of washed treatment plants based on all recommended standards ‎
