Indonesia Koerintji Barokah Bersama
The 320 members of the Koerintji Barokah Bersama cooperative live and farm on a plateau at the foot of Mount Kerinchi on the island of Sumatra.
Mount Kerinci is one of many volcanoes in the Pacific Ring of Fire, a 40,000-kilometer horseshoe-shaped series of 452 volcanoes that are part of an almost continuous dance of eruptions and plate movements. Historical eruptions of the Kerinci volcano have contributed to the surrounding area being lush and green, with large reserves of fertile volcanic soil.
The cooperative is managed by Trijono, who teaches the members of the cooperative how to process and roast their own coffee. Adjacent to the dry mill is a fully equipped roastery, including a bottling lab.
